Our story
A familiar food with a bigger story
Across Africa and the diaspora, Akara is part of everyday life. Behind it are farmers, traders, cooks and entrepreneurs—many of them women.
Pioneered by the Quincy Odafe Humanitarian Foundation in Nigeria, World Akara Day gives those stories a dedicated global platform every 28 November.
